Late 1970s collection of gritty short comics by Otomo—best known as the creator of Akira—drawn when he was only 22 or 23. This is an untranslated Japanese edition.
I just love how he draws. He achieves a balance of cartoon buoyance and accomplished realism many try to imitate, but I think they often miss the goofiness and emphasis on facial expressions. Coming to these comics mostly knowing Domu and Akira, I was struck by the subdued and literary look.
