Charles Seliger - Nature’s Journal

When I was in art school a painting teacher had a Seliger print at the Morgan for us to look at - I haven't been able to find an image of it since but it's rattling around my mind somewhere still. Unlike the works in this book it was a black and white drawing, but with this swimming psychedelic texture and intense sharpness of the lines - must have been an etching.

This is a little softcover full color catalog from the abstract expressionist's 1994 show 'Nature's Journal.' Seliger was a later AbExer who befriended the crew via Max Ernst's kid (according to Wikipedia). These 90s works are brimming, astounding ecosystems painted more or less the size they're reproduced here: small but not teensy. This is my favorite kind of just fucking sent-to-space extraterrestrial modernism. Beautiful book.

I can't verify the signature but it does appear to have been I signed by him to someone else on the title page.
